After years of working
for various FBOs and as a Corporate Pilot, our founder, Kent Shilling,
observed he was investing his energy building someone else's business.
Now a sought after instructor with a strong reputation, Kent decided to
build his own aviation business. Word of mouth among Central Kentucky Pilots
for some years now is that Kent is a knowledgeable professional who teaches
rather than trains in a personable yet professional manner.
To raise capital, Kent founded
Douglas Trading Co. to sell knick knacks via Internet and mail order, leaving
him free to fly with students. Success led to the purchase of his first
airplane. Founded in 2007 and operated as a division of Douglas Trading
Co., Douglas Aviation works one on one with you through the offered Pilot
Certificates and Ratings in your airplane or ours. Your instructor will
schedule with you around your other activities and work out a time to completion,
which will become our goal.
Douglas Aviation has access
to several airplanes presently, and flies with students out of these airports:
Danville / Boyle County, Richmond / Madison County, Lebanon / Springfiled,
Campbellsville / Taylor County, Lexington / Bluegrass, and Somerset
/ Pulaski County. We are diligently seeking agreements with more
airports, and will conduct flight instruction wherever requested to do
so; we will come to you! Outside Kentucky, consider the 14 day course to
save on ferry charges.
Ideally, you will earn your
Private Pilot Certificate in our airplane and rent it for a brief time
thereafter. When you have selected an aircraft to purchase for yourself,
earn your Instrument Rating in your airplane with one of our instructors.
Kent has given hundreds of
hours of instruction to dozens of satisfied pilots in Missouri, Louisiana
and Kentucky; and invests considerable time and energy in Douglas Aviation,
catering to owner-pilots. Kent also teaches ground school as a single weekend
written test preparation course.
